How to Respond to Family Violence

10 steps of a witness to violence

Hear.

Notice.

Respond.

Talk to the person experiencing violence and say that you are ready to help.

Say you are ready to act, if the situation escalates.

Educate yourself in how to help.

Learn the addresses and contact details of institutions and organizations working to help families affected by domestic violence.

Inform your family members of the names, addresses and contact details of institutions and organizations supporting families affected by domestic violence.

Talk to the abuser, tell them that you know what they do and that you do not accept it.

Report the situation to the relevant services.

REMEMBER: it is better to react 10 times and not confirm that something bad is happening, than not to react in a situation that may cost the health or life of a person suffering from violence
